Congratulations to the 5th grade Students of the Month for October! ELA: I can always count on Catherine to share insightful comments and notice details that can easily be overlooked. She adds so much to our class discussions! ELA: Jordyn always strives to do and be her best every day, and she is such a joy to have in class! Math: Joseph is a hard worker and he strives to be successful while adjusting to a new school setting. I can always depend on him to have a smile on his face. Math: Paisley is a very strong math student. She is generally always on task and works hard. All in all, she's a very respectable young lady. SS: Wyatt always comes in with a great attitude and is ready to learn. He is an outstanding young man! SC: Riley comes in every day with a huge smile on his face. He works hard, is very polite, and is a great role model for others.

Car Rider Parents: good morning! We are 12 weeks into the year and I am asking for your assistance. To ensure our pickup/drop-off is efficient and safe as possible I want to remind you of our procedures. For morning drop-off: students need to be ready to exit the car from the passenger side (if possible) when you get to the awning. Also. The exterior doors close at 7:58 am sharp. Students need to be in the building, if a car rider, prior to this time. In the afternoon, please make sure you have your hang tags displayed. If you have any questions, reach out to Dr. Powell directly. Thank you for your assistance!

We earn incentive dollars that can be used to purchase supplies like classroom pencil sharpeners, pencils, clocks, batteries, etc. IMPORTANT - Please remember that cards must be linked again at the beginning of each school year. Parents, The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, also known as GEMA, requires all schools in the State of Georgia to hold Active Shooter Lockdown Drills by October 1st yearly. Commerce Middle School will conduct our Level 3 Lockdown Drill tomorrow, 9/24, at 9:50 am to meet this requirement. In light of events at Apalachee High School in the past month, I understand that this is not an ideal time to conduct the drill. However, we must ensure that our students and teachers understand the procedures in the event of a level 3 lockdown to ensure the safety of all. We also must remain compliant with GEMA and State of Georgia law. School administration, along with the Commerce Police Department, will be conducting the drill with the intent to improve our safety practices while minimizing anxiety about the drill. I understand that not all students are ready to participate in a drill. I do not want to create fear or anxiety in our students. If you feel your child will be affected adversely, we will excuse absences during the time of the drill. I expect the drill to take no longer than 30 minutes. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly. Sincerely, Dr. Phillip Powell Principal Commerce Middle School
