Shirley Nunn Honored with Sisterhood Hall of Fame Award at CMS Basketball Awards Banquet
Commerce, GA – At the recent CMS Girls Basketball Awards Banquet, Shirley Nunn was proudly honored with the prestigious Sisterhood Hall of Fame Award. A legendary figure in Georgia high school basketball, Nunn is widely regarded as one of the greatest players not only in Commerce High School history but in the entire state of Georgia.
Nunn, who scored over 2,000 points during her career and had her number retired, was celebrated for her significant contributions to the sport, both on and off the court. Her legacy continues to inspire current players, and she remains a fixture at Commerce basketball games and events. Her regular attendance and involvement in team functions help foster a true sense of sisterhood within the program.
In addition to honoring Nunn, Kenyanna Jackson was presented with the Shirley Nunn Basketball Achievement Award for her outstanding performance and leadership within the middle school basketball program. Over the past two seasons, Jackson has played a pivotal role in leading the team to back-to-back championships. She’s been undefeated at home, undefeated in the playoffs, and 2-0 in championship games.
Head Coach Michael Palmer shared, “Kenyanna has been a key player in our championship runs, and each year required a different role from her. Over her time with the middle school program, she’s built an incredible resume of achievements, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything she’s accomplished”. The Shirley Nunn Basketball Achievement Award is a new addition to the program this year, designed to honor players who embody the same dedication, sportsmanship, and leadership as Shirley Nunn.
“It’s an honor to have someone of Shirley’s caliber involved with our program,” said Coach Palmer. “Her commitment to Commerce Basketball, both as a player and a mentor, continues to inspire us all. Having her engage with our team helps create a powerful connection between the past and present, which strengthens our program and solidifies the sisterhood that Commerce basketball is known for.”
Nunn’s contributions to the program, combined with her lasting legacy, continue to inspire all involved in the Commerce Girls Basketball team. As Commerce Basketball celebrates the achievements of its players, it’s clear that Shirley Nunn’s influence will remain a driving force for years to come.
