On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross the United States, passing over Texas, and traveling through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. A total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk.
In Commerce, weather permitting, a partial solar eclipse is expected to take place approximately
between 1:45 and 4:20 p.m., with the maximum viewing time around 3:06 p.m.
Our school system will make students aware of the eclipse. However, with our primary/elementary
schools dismissing at 2:30 p.m. and middle and high schools at 3:00 p.m., no organized viewing
activities are planned.
Students, who eat breakfast in the cafeterias on Monday, April 8, will receive eclipse glasses from the
school food nutrition department. Students departing campuses on buses and as car riders will be reminded
to avoid looking directly at the eclipse.
Please find below some additional information regarding the eclipse. If you
have any further questions or need additional information, please don't hesitate to reach out.
